About the Role
Seeking a highly skilled Microsoft SSRS / RDL Report Developer to design and develop pixel-perfect, paginated reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Report Builder, and RDLs. This role requires a strong eye for detail, technical expertise in SQL and reporting tools, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into visually appealing and functional reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy SSRS/BI reports using RDL with complex layouts, parameters, and drill-through capabilities.
- Build pixel-perfect, paginated reports (financial statements, invoices, compliance reports, operational dashboards).
- Collaborate with business users to gather requirements and translate them into technical report designs.
- Optimize datasets, queries, and report performance for large-scale data (millions of rows).
- Implement report interactivity (parameters, drill-downs, drill-throughs, dynamic filtering).
- Manage data sources, datasets, and report subscriptions.
- Ensure reports are responsive, exportable, and printable (PDF, Excel, Word).
- Work with DBAs/engineers to integrate reports with SQL Server, SSAS, and other enterprise data sources.
- Apply custom expressions, conditional formatting, indicators, charts, and gauges for impactful storytelling.
- Maintain documentation and version control of RDLs.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with SSRS / RDL report development.
- Strong SQL skills (T-SQL, stored procedures, query optimization).
- Proven ability to create complex RDL layouts (grouping, nested tables, matrices, subreports, headers/footers).
- Expertise in charts, gauges, indicators, maps in RDLs.
- Experience in report performance tuning (query optimization, efficient dataset usage).
- Familiarity with data modelling concepts and relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
- Strong understanding of parameters, expressions, and custom code in RDLs.
- Experience with subscriptions, scheduling, and report delivery in SSRS.
- Ability to work closely with business users to deliver beautiful, functional, and user-friendly reports.
- Exposure to Power BI Paginated Reports, Power BI Service, or other BI tools.
- Knowledge of custom report items (CRI) or embedding external/custom charts in RDLs.
- Experience with ETL / data pipelines (SSIS, ADF, etc.).
- Understanding of reporting best practices in finance, healthcare, or regulatory domains.
- Strong design skills (eye for clean layouts, professional formatting).
